Team Project

Our assignment is the DePaul Art Museum, and this museum is close to my apartment. However, I had never been there. The museum is in the good size, so if you are walking inside there, you never get lost. There are also staff every corner of the museum. When we went there, there is We Shall Exhibit by a famous artist, Paul D'Amato from Yale University. He focuses on African-American in the West side of Chicago.

His attention points out the life in West Side of Chicago.

Artist Project III

I choose Chalermchai Kositpipat because he is well-know, and he is courage and confident person.
Throughout his background, he is also a hard-working artists. He is so simple in his life, but not in his artwork. He stopped painting, and  he is currently working on his mega project that will be finished in a couple generation. One of the main temple finished, and it spent about 15 years. However, his plan is to build 8 more.

This is the entrance to one of the main temple.

This is one of the main Building that is just finished. His attention is really to use all white color.

The artist focuses on every single detail .

Public Art Chicago

The four seasons by Marc Chagall is one of the hardest one for me to find somebody to take me a picture. Because I went there all alone in day time around noon, and most people around there just go there for smoking, I spend about half and hour there. Hopefully, I found some tourist, and they helped me nicely. As a result of spending half and hour there, I walked around and explore this artwork a lot. It is a nice place anyway.

It is very fun when Gitte assigns us to explore Public Art in Chicago. When I check the website, she gives us. I am kind of amazed because there are a lot of public artwork in Chicago. My favorite one should be Picasso's Chicago. I was lucky when I went there because there are many kids playing on his artwork. I like it.

Another is Monument with Standing Beast by Jean Dubuffet. I know that it was the same lucky day when I went there. While I was listening to the audio file, there were a boy and a girl playing hide and seek. I was so happy seeing them play.
I will tried to go as many as I can in this small break. It is fun and relax to do something that you are not comfortable with.

Art 21

The Art 21 web-site presents many artists in this century in a variety of subject, content and style. The one that speaks to me the most is the Oliver Herring because I can remember it after I finish the reading assignment, it is really fun. I compare his artwork to something that I have seen from the TV. It is similar with the Robot Chicken. One thing that I have noticed from watching those video is the deeply detail that the artist focuses on. Another example is by Laylah Ali. She watched a lot of cartoon and TV. She collects and concentrates on a small single detail. For me, a little of them is OK, but going into too many detail is kind of creepy for me.

Museum of Contemporary Art

Our class went to Museum of Contemporary Art a couple week ago, and for me the one was the hardest one for me to understand. If I went there by myself, I might get only a little idea. Gitte explained many of the artworks to me, and I thanked for that because I understand the concept of this place. Many artworks point out the process how to make the artwork, and it leaves a lot of garbage. The one that I never forget was cut out the part that the artist want to use, and leave out the broader. The concept is the unnecessary thing that was throw away by the artist, and most of the concepts are similar to this. Another example is the wooden hut in the third floor of the museum that projects a film. The film that have only white background and the black dot keep showing the same thing again and again.
The one below represent Chinese Philosophy which is Yin Yang
The good thing that our class went there as a group is more fun!

AI Reflection

The Art Institute's website is very convenient because most of the icons and links that are used on the homepage are mostly in a rectangular shape. I personally love everything around me to be simple and easy to use. This website also use a simpatico symbol in the top of right hand conner, such as clock, calendar, ticket and member. The Exhibition icon at the homepage catches my attention the most because I like to check what is going on now and in the future, so I find one ordinary painting in nineteenth century. The artwork name "Time Transfixed" by Rene Magritte. It will be opened and show soon in the theme of " The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926 to 1938". I do believe that this topic is related to the topic that we had discussed last week. The exhibit will bring us back to the early commercial work in the year before the WW two happened. Exciting isn't it ! I can wait to see it.

The movie "Vincent and Theo" focuses on the relationship between Vincent and his brother, Theo, and it also shows that not only Vincent that has a problem with his life but also his brother. Both of them struggle for their own point-of-view. For example, Theo works in an art gallery in France, and most of his job is to sell the painting by describing and explaining why each artwork has an unique or beautiful. However, most of the paintings that he sells are not his style, and he asks the owner of the gallery a couple time that he wants to open his own art gallery. Because of lacking of finance support, he cannot persuade his expectation. Until the death of Vincent, he decides to open one for Vincent and to present Vincent's effort, and it becomes very successful. One to two years later, Theo gets sick and passes away follow Vincent. Moreover, as we have studied about Vincent in class, we knew that Vincent Van Gogh's life is very different and difficult. Vincent works very hard to express what he see.
